Buying from Modient Drive
How our hardware first model works, what is included, and how Modient Drive is different from traditional tracker subscriptions.
What does Modient Drive actually sell?
Modient Drive sells GPS tracking hardware for vehicles, family cars, first cars, boats, trailers, equipment, and small personal items.
Our focus is simple: help you add location visibility to the things you own without forcing you into a locked in Modient monthly tracker plan.
Depending on the product, you may also receive access to a supported tracking app or platform for a stated period. Where that is included, we will show it on the product page so you know what is part of the purchase before you order.
How is Modient Drive different from a normal GPS tracking subscription?
Many GPS tracking services bundle the device, SIM card, app access, data, platform, and support into one monthly subscription. That can be convenient, but it also means you are locked into their ongoing plan.
Modient Drive takes a more flexible approach. You buy the tracker hardware, check the SIM and app requirements for that product, and choose a compatible data option where required.
This gives you more control over the upfront purchase and the ongoing costs. It also means you need to understand what each product requires before ordering, which is why we try to make the product pages and FAQs clear.
Is there a Modient Drive monthly plan?
No. Modient Drive does not charge a monthly tracker plan.
That does not always mean there are no future costs at all. Some trackers require a compatible SIM card, mobile data, carrier service, roaming, or future app/platform renewal. These costs depend on the product, SIM provider, country, network, and application provider.
The key difference is that you are not locked into a Modient monthly tracker contract.
Does pay once mean there are no ongoing costs?
Not always.
Pay once means you buy the tracking hardware upfront and avoid a locked in Modient monthly tracker plan. However, GPS trackers usually need some way to send location data to an app. That may involve a compatible SIM card, mobile data, carrier fees, roaming charges, or platform access depending on the product.
Some products may include prepaid access to the supported tracking application provider for a stated period. If that applies, it will be shown on the product page.
Our goal is not to pretend there are no ongoing costs anywhere. Our goal is to help you avoid unnecessary locked in tracker plans and stay in control of the costs that do apply.
Why should I buy from Modient Drive?
Modient Drive is built for people who want a clear, practical GPS tracking option without being pushed into a traditional monthly tracker plan.
We focus on:
- Clear tracker categories
- Straightforward product information
- Practical setup guidance
- Visibility for vehicles and gear you own
- No locked in Modient monthly tracker contract
- Honest explanations about SIM cards, apps, and third party providers
We would rather explain the setup properly before you buy than overpromise and leave you confused later.
Choosing the right tracker
Understand the difference between OBD, hardwired, battery, and personal trackers before you choose.
Which tracker should I choose?
It depends on what you want to track and how you want the device installed.
An OBD plug in tracker is usually best if you want the fastest vehicle setup and your vehicle has a compatible OBD port.
A hardwired tracker is usually best if you want a more discreet, longer term vehicle installation that is harder to spot and remove.
A battery vehicle tracker is useful for boats, trailers, caravans, equipment, or assets where wiring is not practical.
A personal tracker is best for bags, keys, luggage, sports gear, or smaller portable items.
If you are unsure, start with the item you want to protect, then choose the install style that makes the most sense.
What is an OBD tracker best for?
An OBD tracker is best for simple vehicle tracking. It plugs into the vehicle’s OBD port and draws power from the vehicle, so there is usually no battery charging or hardwiring required.
It is a good option for family cars, shared vehicles, older vehicles without built in tracking, and people who want the easiest setup.
The trade off is that OBD trackers are usually easier to find and remove than a hardwired tracker. They also require a compatible OBD port.
What is a hardwired tracker best for?
A hardwired tracker is best when you want a cleaner, more discreet, long term vehicle install.
It connects to vehicle power and can be installed out of sight, which makes it harder to spot than a plug in tracker. This is often the better option for first cars, older vehicles, work vehicles, and vehicles where you want a more permanent setup.
If you are not confident with vehicle wiring, we recommend using an auto electrician.
What is a battery tracker best for?
A battery tracker is useful when the thing you want to track does not have a simple power source or moves between places.
It can suit trailers, boats, caravans, equipment, temporary vehicle tracking, or other assets where hardwiring is not practical.
Battery life depends on the product, settings, location update frequency, signal strength, and how often the device moves or reports.
What is a personal tracker best for?
A personal tracker is designed for smaller portable items such as bags, luggage, keys, sports gear, or equipment.
It is not the same as a vehicle tracker. It is usually smaller, more portable, and designed around flexible everyday use.
Always check the product page to confirm the size, battery life, app, SIM requirements, and supported use case.
SIM cards and mobile data
GPS trackers usually need mobile data to send location updates. These answers explain what to check before ordering.
Do I need a SIM card?
Many GPS trackers need a compatible SIM card with mobile data so they can send location information to the supported app or platform.
Unless the product page clearly says a SIM card is included, you should assume you need to supply your own compatible SIM and pay any related carrier, data, activation, roaming, or plan charges.
This is part of how Modient Drive helps avoid a locked in monthly tracker plan. You are not forced into our SIM plan, but you do need to make sure the SIM you choose is compatible.
Why does a GPS tracker need mobile data?
The tracker uses GPS to work out where it is. It then needs mobile data to send that location to the app or tracking platform.
GPS tells the device where it is. Mobile data helps send that information to your phone or account.
If the SIM has no data, the mobile network is unavailable, or the device cannot connect, live updates may stop until connection is restored.
Can I use any SIM card?
Not always.
The SIM needs to match the tracker’s SIM size, supported network bands, carrier requirements, country, and data settings. Some carriers or plans may also restrict use in GPS, IoT, machine to machine, or non phone devices.
Always check the product page first, then check the SIM provider’s terms and coverage before buying a SIM.
Can I use a prepaid SIM?
Often, yes, but it depends on the tracker and the SIM provider.
A prepaid SIM can be a good way to keep ongoing costs low, especially if the tracker only needs a small amount of data. However, the SIM must support mobile data and be suitable for the device.
You are responsible for keeping the SIM active, topped up, and connected.
How much data does a GPS tracker use?
Data use varies.
It depends on the tracker, update frequency, movement, signal quality, app/platform settings, alerts, and how often you check or use the device.
Many GPS trackers use relatively small amounts of data compared with normal phone use, but we do not guarantee a specific data amount unless it is stated on the product page.
What happens if the SIM runs out of data?
If the SIM runs out of data, expires, is deactivated, loses coverage, or is blocked by the carrier, the tracker may stop sending live updates to the app.
The hardware may still be powered, but the app may not receive current location information until the SIM/data connection is restored.
App and platform access
Modient Drive supplies the hardware. The supported tracking app or platform is usually provided by a third party.
Which app does the tracker use?
Many Modient Drive trackers are designed to work with third party tracking platforms such as TrackSolid Pro by JimiIoT, JimiIoT, Jimi Life, or another supported app listed on the product page.
The supported app can vary by product, so always check the product page before ordering.
Does Modient Drive own TrackSolid Pro or JimiIoT?
No.
TrackSolid Pro, JimiIoT, Jimi Life, and similar platforms are third party applications or tracking platforms. Modient Drive does not own or operate those platforms.
Modient Drive supplies the GPS tracking hardware and, where stated on the product page, may prepay access to the supported application provider for a stated period.
Is app access included with the tracker?
Some products may include prepaid access to the supported tracking application provider for a stated period. Others may require separate app/platform access, activation, SIM setup, or future renewal.
If app or platform access is included, we will state that on the product page.
If future renewal fees apply, these are usually managed by the third party application provider unless clearly stated otherwise.
Can Modient Drive guarantee the app will always be online?
No.
The app, platform uptime, account systems, servers, app updates, feature availability, and long term platform operation are controlled by the third party application provider.
Modient Drive does not control or guarantee third party app uptime, platform availability, app changes, server performance, or uninterrupted access.
We will always try to provide clear product information, but we cannot control the operation of third party platforms.
Can Modient Drive guarantee live tracking will always work?
No GPS tracking product can honestly guarantee uninterrupted live tracking.
Live tracking depends on several things working together:
- The tracker hardware
- GPS signal
- SIM card
- Mobile data
- Carrier coverage
- Network conditions
- Correct setup
- Supported app or platform availability
- Battery or vehicle power
If any one of those parts is unavailable, location updates may be delayed, interrupted, or unavailable until the issue is resolved.
What features are available in the app?
Features vary by tracker and platform.
Depending on the product, the app may support live location, movement history, route playback, geofences, vibration alerts, low battery alerts, power disconnect alerts, overspeed alerts, and other settings.
Always check the product page for the features supported by that tracker and app/platform combination.
Installation and setup
Some trackers are simple plug in or place and charge devices. Others may need a more careful install.
Can I install the tracker myself?
Some trackers are designed for easier DIY setup.
OBD plug in trackers are usually the simplest because they plug into a compatible OBD port.
Battery and personal trackers are also usually easier because they are charged and placed rather than wired into the vehicle.
Hardwired trackers are more discreet, but they involve vehicle power wiring. If you are not confident, use an auto electrician.
How hard is setup?
Setup depends on the tracker type.
The physical install may be as simple as plugging in the device, or it may involve wiring, charging, placing, activating a SIM, and connecting the device to the supported app.
We recommend reading the product page before ordering so you understand the install style, SIM requirements, and app setup.
Can the tracker be hidden?
Some trackers can be installed or placed more discreetly than others.
Hardwired trackers are usually the best option for a hidden vehicle install. Battery trackers may also be placed discreetly depending on the asset and product design.
However, no tracker is impossible to find or remove. A GPS tracker should be used as one layer of visibility alongside normal security measures.
What if I cannot get the tracker connected?
Start by checking the basics:
- The tracker has power or battery charge
- The SIM is active
- Mobile data is enabled
- The SIM has credit or an active plan
- The device is in mobile coverage
- The app/platform details match the product
- Any required setup steps have been followed
If you are still stuck, contact us with your order number, tracker model, country, SIM provider, and what you are seeing in the app.
Tracking features and real world use
What GPS tracking can help with, what it cannot guarantee, and how to think about features in normal use.
What can I track?
Depending on the product, Modient Drive trackers can be used for vehicles, family cars, first cars, boats, trailers, caravans, equipment, luggage, keys, bags, sports gear, and other items you own or are legally authorised to monitor.
Choose the tracker based on the item, power source, install style, and how often you need location updates.
Can it help if my vehicle, trailer, or gear is stolen?
A GPS tracker cannot prevent theft or guarantee recovery.
What it can do is provide another layer of visibility if the tracker is powered, connected, receiving GPS signal, using a working SIM/data connection, and communicating with the supported app/platform.
We recommend using GPS tracking alongside normal security measures such as locks, alarms, immobilisers, secure parking, insurance, and sensible storage.
Does the tracker show live location?
Many trackers support live location updates through the supported app or platform, but the exact update behaviour depends on the tracker, app, settings, SIM, mobile coverage, power state, and GPS signal.
Live location should be understood as location visibility when the system is connected and communicating, not a guarantee of uninterrupted real time tracking in every situation.
Does it have movement alerts?
Some trackers and apps support movement, vibration, geofence, low battery, power disconnect, or overspeed alerts.
Alert availability depends on the tracker and the supported app/platform. Alerts also rely on the tracker being powered, connected, and able to send data.
Is this better than an AirTag?
They are different products for different jobs.
AirTags rely on nearby Apple devices to help report location. They can be useful for everyday items in areas where Apple devices are nearby.
GPS trackers use GPS and mobile data to send location updates through a tracking platform. That usually makes them more suitable for vehicles, trailers, boats, and assets where mobile coverage is available and you want more direct tracking features.
Responsible use
GPS tracking should be used for vehicles, assets, and gear you own or are legally authorised to monitor.
Can I use a tracker for a teen driver or family vehicle?
Yes, GPS tracking can be useful for family vehicles and teen driver peace of mind, provided you own the vehicle or are legally authorised to monitor it.
We recommend being upfront with regular drivers. GPS tracking should be used to protect vehicles, support safety, and provide visibility, not to secretly monitor people.
Can I use it for fleet vehicles or work equipment?
Yes, selected products may be suitable for small business vehicles, work trucks, trailers, tools, and equipment.
For employee, contractor, or business use, you are responsible for making sure tracking is lawful and that any required notices, policies, consents, or disclosures are provided.
Can I secretly track someone?
No.
Modient Drive products must not be used to secretly track people, vehicles, or items you do not own or are not legally authorised to monitor.
You are responsible for following the laws, privacy rules, consent requirements, and workplace obligations that apply in your location.
