Hardwired trackers

Best for

Discreet, long term vehicle tracking where you want the tracker harder to find and remove.

How it installs

Wired into the vehicle’s power system. Fuse piggyback connectors may make installation easier without cutting or soldering wires.

What to consider

Many capable home hobbyists can install a hardwired tracker, but an auto electrician is recommended if you are not confident with vehicle wiring.

OBD plug in trackers

Best for

Fast setup in compatible cars, family vehicles, and work vehicles.

How it installs

Plugs directly into the vehicle’s OBD port and draws power from the vehicle.

What to consider

Most vehicles made from 1996 onward have an OBD port, but compatibility can vary. OBD trackers are easy to install, but easier to find and remove.

Trailers, equipment, motorcycles, temporary tracking, and situations where wiring is not practical.

Personal trackers

Best for

Bags, keys, luggage, valuables, gear, and everyday personal items.

How it installs

Charge the device and carry it with the item you want to keep track of.

What to consider

Personal trackers are small and portable. They are useful for everyday items, but they are not a replacement for a discreet hardwired vehicle tracker.
